Mikey Kettinger ~ 2015

Summerfest Arts Faire, Logan’s largest multidisciplinary arts festival, has awarded a grant to Mikey Kettinger, an art graduate student at Utah State University.

Kettinger is an interdisciplinary artist who emphasizes the creation of experiences over art objects. On his website he states, “I use a variety of traditional and time-based media that allows concepts to determine my materials and productions. Whether it’s a video portrait series, as in ‘Portraits of Observers of Violence’ or an interactive multimedia installation, as in ‘Mail-Art Gift Campaign,’ much of my artwork documents past and present human behavior and causes audiences to contemplate the future.”

For his Summerfest project, Kettinger will collect and recycle various materials and transform them into five art objects (like mailboxes) that function as sculptures and depositories for small artworks (drawings, poems, books, CDs, small objects, etc.). These boxes will then be installed in various public spaces in Cache Valley with art supplies and instructions that ask people to “create something that represents your favorite things about Cache Valley.” Some of the results collected will be displayed at Summerfest, and later, the contents will be sent to an artist in Jacksonville, Florida, who will distribute the objects there. Ultimately, residents of Cache Valley will have created handmade gifts for people across the country. People of all ages and abilities will be able to participate.

Cache County School District ~ 2014

Cache County School District’s Mosaic Bench Project 

took place during Summerfest and we want to thank all those who took  pART in creating these functional pieces of art. Designed by Mountain Crest HS students, with Salt Lake artist Donna Pence and local artists, Michael Bingham and Aurora Villa, these benches will be placed in downtown Logan as soon as they are completed.  Logan Regional Hospital sponsored the materials in celebration of their 100 years of service to Cache Valley.  Additional funding for artist fees was provided by the George S. and Delores Dorré Eccles Foundation.

Eiko Anderson ~ 2014

Local artist, Eiko Anderson, taught Japanese Sumié Painting  and Calligraphy throughout the event in her booth, #100.  Patrons, young and old got excited to create their own piece of Japanese art to take home. We hope you took advantage of this great opportunity!

Jeannie Allen's 8th-9th grade students from South Cache ~ 2014

South Cache 8-9 Center created a Sidewalk Chalk Gallery on the grounds of the Tabernacle during Summerfest.  Artwork was done by 8^th and 9^th grade students, their teacher, Jeannie Allen and USU students.  We hope you stopped by to see the wonderful art created during Summerfest.
