My work is stoneware, high fired clay and raku fired pottery. I am very inspired of the southeastern Utah landscape and the native American pottery of the area and my work draws considerably from those forms. Asian pottery and aesthetics is also very influential on my choice of glazes and surface treatments. Those influences manifest in the unique combinations of forms, glazes and textures of my work. I work mostly with the slow methodical process of cone 10 high-fired stoneware. as a counterpoint, unpredictable, rapid-fired raku pottery pulled from the kiln red hot is quite satisfying in its spontaneity. My work bring out the rich deep colors of stoneware and the startling colors and metallic flashes of raku. https://jwestclay.weebly.com/
